My Deepest Condolences to the Pershing Family and Loved Ones,
I cannot express the heaviness my heart feels right now knowing that Jana is not on this earth. Yet, I recall Dr Pershing sharing the adventures of his daughter during my time under his instruction at IU… and thinking “WOW”! Today, as I viewed the MEMORIAL SITE dedicated to sharing a few minutes of Jana with us all….I reflect back and now think that my using the words “WOW” was an understatement. It is clear that she love you all and life. Her memories will inspire others to continue her work. I will keep you all in my prayers.
Sincerely,
Stacey Scales

Jana,
It was a pleasure getting to know you while you were here visiting this planet. You were given more obstacles than a person deserves and yet you valiantly kept pushing ahead and doing the best you could. Thank you for allowing me into your life to be one of your helpers. You are finally pain free and problem free. As you look down on all of us, remember the good times you had before you became ill, and know that we wish you well in whatever direction your spirit travels next
David

Reading the obitruary, the eulogy, and the special thanks as well as seeing the life in pictures brings in view the internal suffering I could sense in meetings and interactions with her father the past several years. I would not have been so brave as I have seen in Jim and now I read in Jana's message. She was extremely courageous in life and committed to causes she believed in. That is what I take from this tonight...to live for your beliefs while helping others in theirs along the way. Jana seems to have done that and much more. I am deeply sorry for your loss Jim. There are no words that I can really place here to fully express myself...

I've never met Dr. Jana Pershing in person, but I've heard amazing stories about her from her father, Prof. Jim Pershing. Without a doubt, she is a proud and beloved daughter of Prof. Pershing and Patricia, and her wonderful memories will last forever. May she rest in peace.

As a long time student of Dr. Jim Pershing it is so sad to hear that his beloving daughter has passed away. However, I thank Jana for her efforts to show us, until the last moment, how precious our lives are and why we should devote them to better causes. Jana, on the road of grief, your family will be proud of you that you made a difference to the world.

My thoughts are with Dan and the Pershing family. May God be with you and give you strength. This moving online memorial pays fitting tribute to the truly extraordinary person that Jana must have been. I pray that her soul is now in a place where there is no more pain or suffering, only love and grace.

I am a long-time colleague of Jim Pershing at Indiana University. My wife Kathy and I got to know Jim and his wife Pat even better in recent years through our mutual interests in ballroom dancing. Although we never met Jana, we knew about her illness over the past few years and could see the effect it was having on Jim and Pat. It is hard to imagine the loss of one of your own children. We hope that Jim, Pat, their son and family, and the many friends of Jana will hold fond memories of her. It is clear from the comments made already that Jana affected many people in her life.

Hi Dr. Pershing: I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I remember hearing you talk often of Jana when I was in Bloomington back in 2000-2001. My thoughts are with you, and with her.
